After World War II, Great Britain sought a very lightweight support weapon to replace the service rifle, the submachine gun, and the light machine gun. Inspired by the captured German Paratrooper Rifle 42 (FG 42), the goal was set to develop a multifunctional weapon. The most promising design was the Light Automatic Gun (L.A.G.) Experimental Model 1 (E.M. 1), developed by Roman Korsak. The L.A.G. E.M. 1 marks a milestone in British military ordnance technology and highlights the technical innovations and challenges of the postwar era.
